Proposition B: New hire qualifications for retiree healthcare (Board of Supervisors)

WHAT: Requires new employees to begin to help pay for health care coverage by paying up to 2% of their paycheck. Establishes a pension fund for miscellaneous employees. This charter amendment would help pay off estimated $4.2 billion deficit the city faces for the retirement medical expenses of the city’s current and former employees.

Proponents: Supervisor Elsbernd (sponsor) other SF City supervisors and government employee unions.

Opponents: One of the retiree groups disagree with how the trust fund would be administered.
